Thai businessman replicates iconic European supercars in foam and fiberglass

Thai national Chris Pongpitaya is well known in his region as a replica maker who can produce copies of the best known European cars that are accurate down to the tee. Even if these copies mimic just the exterior of the fab and famous cars, Pongpitaya assures his customers that his creations are guaranteed to impress onlookers on the streets though challenging someone to a drag race in one of these replicas is probably not such a great idea since the Bangkok-based businessman uses chassis and engines from old Opels, Subarus and Toyotas scavenged from local garages.

Pongpitaya makes no bones about the fact that the Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini and Aston Martin look alikes that come out of his shop are pure fakes and is rather proud of the fact that his foam, carbon fiber, Kevlar and fiberglass constructions resemble the originals. Pongpitaya uses toy models of these supercars as well as pictures to create these replicas and occasionally, when he can’t find them, he even throws in a few original parts like door handles etc. to make the copies look a little more authentic.

Pongpitaya’s clientele include locals who want bragging rights on the streets as well as supercar lovers with budget limitations from Dubai and Sweden as well. Most of Pongpitaya’s replicas are sold for half the price of the originals which may seem like a lot but buyers always have ht option of getting their powertrains upgraded according to their own needs.
