Back in the good old days, and by the good old days we mean the period before computers and video games became the only pastimes for children, the winter season meant spending every waking moment crafting snowmen in the backyard and going sledging with friends and coming back with bruises to show off proudly! Sadly, kids today just don’t appreciate nature’s bounty the same way but a lot of people who were kids and teens before the internet was born and who are still young at heart can recapture their youth with this series of awesome GTI Snow Sleds from Volkswagen.

We guess people working in the R&D department at VW too are saddened by the demise of the awesome winter pastimes of our childhoods which is why they decided to give up on trying to improve on cars and are now targeting folks with toys from their childhoods to cash in on the nostalgia factor. Since most children today can only be forced to go and play outside if they are given toys that have a big brand name, these rapid departure sleds from VW make perfect sense.
The series of 8 different sleds are aimed at children of all age groups and come with models inspired by Beetle Herbie, the Golf GTI, the Snow Flyer Herbie and the Lenkbob Snow Future GTI. With cold resistant plastics, padded seating, footrests integrated on both sides and steering wheels, these sleds put those old makeshift wooden sleds that your dad or older sibling fashioned from scraps found in the garage to shame and in some style too. Volkswagen’s official German website is currently taking orders for all the models with prices ranging from €49.9 (US $64) for the traditional wooden sled and €64.9 (US $84) for the Golf GTI-inspired sled named Crazy Bob.
