Volvo Ants Long Haul Transportation Concept makes biomimicry look good

The social behavior of ants have made them one of the most efficient and thriving species on earth. The Volvo Aero Neumatic Transport System AKA the Volvo Ants concept by designer Alex Marzo tries to replicate the structure and efficiency of the common insects to make long-haul transportation of the future more effective.

The structure of the Aero Neumatic Transport System itself is based on the body of the ant and features many modules that ensure that individual vehicles can carry cargo from different companies at the same time.

One of the main reasons why long-haul transportation systems in their current form end up traveling with half-full loads is the fact that they are not geared to carry multiple containers. Generally, these trucks have a single large container that can be filled with smaller boxes which is great for transporting goods that come in smaller packages like dry goods but for large quantities of liquids, specialty trucks need to be hired regardless of the size of the actual delivery.

To eliminate the wastage created by such a system, the Volvo Ants comes with flexible and adjustable containers that ensure that each truck is always carrying cargo to its full capacity. The truck comes with aluminum oxynitrate windows that provide a better view and runs on a lithium ion battery pack which essentially makes it a zero emissions vehicle.
